Their trainers are made for... Running
Our lovely lawyers Chris and Charlotte are busy training for this Sunday’s Hull 10k run.
They are aiming to raise at least £500 for mental health charity Hull & East Yorkshire Mind, at the event on 18 June.
Charlotte said: “Mental health is an issue very close to my heart, with various friends and family suffering from issues like depression over the years.
“Both Chris and I have personally raised funds for this excellent good cause in the past. However, we’re proud to now be doing so on behalf of the firm.
“I’ve seen, first-hand, the impact mental illness can have on someone’s life.
“10 years ago, such issues were treated as taboos that people didn’t really like to talk about. However, now fantastic organisations like Mind are putting them firmly on the agenda, and this is something we are very keen to support.
“It’s a charity which has certainly positively impacted my life, by helping people I really care about.”
Chris added: “I specialise in legal life planning, including Wills and Powers of Attorney. Growing life expectancy is resulting in more and more people suffering from mental issues like dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, and I see more and more clients who are directly affected by these awful issues.
“This is why I feel particularly passionate about raising money for Mind, which provides a much-needed lifeline for people whose lives are ravaged by such problems.”
Chris and Charlotte have been running whenever they get the opportunity, to build up their stamina for the race.
Charlotte added: “I’m a dancer in my spare time and I go to the gym quite a lot, but I’ve had to do some specific training to get ready for a run of this distance, getting up early in a morning and running a few kilometres more or less every other day.
“I’m really looking forward to the buzz around the event, and raising money for this good cause at the same time.”
Chris added: “Running is something I’ve always quite enjoyed but I’ve been putting in some extra miles over recent weeks to make sure I can go the distance on the 18th.”
This is the latest example of James Legal’s commitment to supporting our local community.
Because we strongly believe in giving something back, last year we our family lawyers Sarah and Debbie provided free legal advice worth more than £55,000 to 500 people via the Freedom Centre in east Hull.
Believing in equality of access to legal advice, the girls continue to spend the first Wednesday morning of each month at the centre, providing help with everything from divorce and separation to child issues, grandparent law and financial matters.
We also wrote more than 300 ‘free’ Wills during the course of 2016, in collaboration with a range of charities – in return for voluntary donations to the various good causes – raising a total of £10,255 for more than 50 different charities including £3,750.00 for east Hull’s Dove House Hospice in a separate Free Will scheme.
