It’s official – James Legal is among the county’s top legal firms18-10-2017
This has been a momentous week for James Legal.
We attended a glittering award ceremony in Leeds, where we were shortlisted in three categories, among the leading lights of Yorkshire’s legal profession.
We got down to the final nominees in the ‘Managing Partner of the Year’, ‘Pro-bono’ and ‘Law Firm 1-10 Partners’ categories.
We didn’t win, but we’re chuffed to bits to get this far in an event which marks the pinnacle of the region’s legal calendar.
Not because we got to listen to the dulcet tones of BBC Breakfast sports correspondent – and 2009 Strictly Come Dancing winner, Chris Hollins, during the celebration at Leeds’ New Dock Hall.
But because it hopefully shows our mission to bring something fresh to the legal profession – in order to offer our clients the service and results they deserve – is hitting the mark.
Awards organiser Paul Bunce said: “Our regional legal awards was established in 2000 and is now very well established and regarded in the industry.
“Making it onto our shortlist is an achievement in itself, and one of which the James Legal team can feel justifiably proud.”
On a mission
Our Managing Director and Solicitor Nick Miller, who was nominated in the Managing Partner of the Year category, established James Legal in 2009 as a firm of two solicitors, specialising in business law, and it has since grown tenfold. The awards nomination highlighted his passion and vision for our firm, which is centred on taking a ‘fresh approach to law’ and being ‘people first and lawyers second’.
Nick said: “We’re trying to do our bit to bring the legal profession into the 21st century, with out-of-hours availability, approachability, fee transparency and a commitment to advising clients on what is in their best interests – even if it’s not legal work which brings income for us.”
A successful entrepreneur and outstanding lawyer himself, Nick is driven by offering 360-degree support to companies, which includes help with their business development as well as legal needs.
Business law specialists
The nomination in the ‘Legal Firm – 1-10 Partners’ category, focused on our growth, from just two solicitors to employing 21 people – including solicitors, trainees and apprentices.
It looked our particular specialisms in business, commercial, litigation, dispute resolution and commercial property, as well as how we look after our business clients’ own needs through personal law including family matters, Wills and probate and residential conveyancing.
The ‘Pro-bono’ category shortlisting was for our contribution to our regional community.
Over the past 18 months, this has included offering free help worth more than £55,000 to families, as well as producing 300 ‘free’ Wills with several charities, raising donations worth a total of almost £14,000 for over 50 good causes like Hull’s Dove House Hospice.
Our groundbreaking James Legal – The Business 2017 campaign is our major strategic corporate social responsibility initiative, which is acting as a catalyst for business prosperity locally.
This campaign has so far directly involved almost 150 local business people and includes educational and informative content, free quarterly masterclasses featuring high profile speakers, and packages of business support worth £45,000 for the two winning companies.
A job very well done
Nick concluded: “I’m delighted about this recognition, mainly for our team, who are lovely people, fantastically talented and utterly committed to what they do.
“We are motivated by offering people the best possible legal support and if this recognition for doing that makes more people aware of how we can help them, then that’s fantastic.”
