Sporting our pink briefs with Pride19-07-2017
If there’s one event in the calendar that really showcases the diversity and vibrancy of our city, it’s Pride in Hull.
And we CAN’T WAIT to take part in this weekend’s event – which promises to be more colourful than ever, given our special Hull, UK City of Culture 2017, year.
This is the second year running that we have been the only firm of solicitors to sponsor ‘Hull Pride’, which aims to raise awareness of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) issues.
The centrepiece of the event is the Pride in Hull parade, which celebrates Hull’s LGBT+ community in a very visual way. Members of the James Legal team will be taking part in the procession, complete with James Legal banners and balloons! It will start out from the William Wilberforce statue at Hull College, at 12pm, and will arrive at the festival site in Queen’s Gardens.
At James Legal, we aim to take a fresh approach to law – from our friendly and supportive way of providing advice and help, to giving something back to our local community, through a range of initiatives including getting involved in events like this.
In 2016, we provided free legal help worth over £55,000 to more than 500 people, through our free legal advice sessions at the Freedom Centre on Preston Road in east Hull. And we wrote dozens of ‘free’ wills during 2016, in return for donations to a range of good causes. These helped to raise £10,255 for more than 50 different charities, as well as £3,750.00 to east Hull’s Dove House Hospice in a separate Free Will scheme.
The Pride in Hull event is taking place this Saturday, 22 July, from 2pm onwards. Come along and meet our friendly team at the James Legal stall located in Queen’s Gardens. We will be giving away pink briefs again this year, in exchange for either a selfie or a donation to the Pride in Hull Charity (Registered Charity Number 1170314).
Kelly Bannister, who will be on the James Legal stall, said: “Equality and diversity – including that relating to gender – makes for an nurturing and successful community in our opinion.
“This annual event really acts as a catalyst for that, in its own uniquely upbeat way – which makes it a no-brainer in terms of our support.”
We look forward to seeing you there!
