No Fault Divorce Update

No Fault Divorce Update

Yesterday ministers announced that the long-awaited Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020 will come into force on 6th April 2022.

The new law will introduce a ‘no-fault divorce’. It will replace the need to assign blame to your spouse when applying for a divorce. It will not be possible for the divorce to be contested by the other party and also allows for a joint application for divorce by the parties. Thus, it is hoped that the divorce may proceed as amicably as possible and for children and financial matters to be resolved in a similarly amicable way.
